Chennai, October 9, 2024 – The 78th annual Urs of Qutubul Akhtaab Hazrath Syed Hasan Moulana Baghdadi Qadiri (RA) commenced punctually at 10:00 PM at the historic Dargah located at 235, Linghi Chetty Street, Mannady. Hazrath Syed Hasan Moulana Baghdadi (RA) is the 31st direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) through the revered Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA), his 19th forefather.

The Urs began with the devotional practice of Zikr (remembrance of God), followed by the recitation of Salaam (sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him). Participants then anointed the grave of the saint with sandal paste, marking a moment of reverence and reflection.

Throughout the night, the gathering was immersed in soulful renditions of Hamd, Naat, and Manqabat, praising both Allah and His beloved saints. These eulogies created a spiritual ambiance, drawing participants into deep contemplation.

The Urs concluded with the solemn recitation of Fatiha and Salaam, preceded by two notable compositions: Qasidah Ghausiyah and Qasidah Burdah. The Qasidah Burdah, a 13th-century ode to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by the Sufi poet al-Busiri, was recited before the Fajr Azaan. According to tradition, al-Busiri was miraculously cured of his illness after praising the Prophet in this poem, which has since become a cornerstone of Islamic devotional literature.

The ceremonies were led by the Sajjada Nashin, Habib Mohamed Tahir Bijli, Grandson of Late Prof. H. Habibullah Shah Sahib and Ph.D. Scholar at the P.G. & Research Department of Arabic, The New College, Chennai. Several distinguished guests attended the event, including Dr. Salahuddin Mohammed Ayub, the Chief Kazi of the Government of Tamil Nadu, alongside numerous scholars and dignitaries from across the region.
